Kōri Lamp

A modern re-interpretation of the traditional Japanese rice-paper lanterns, the Kōri Lamp merges timeless craftsmanship with contemporary sensibility. Its form is anchored by a minimalist wood screen, constructed from double-sided dado-cut walnut—celebrated for its rich grain and natural warmth. Each joint is precision-milled, allowing the structure to stand without visible hardware, honoring the Japanese philosophy of purity in design.
These panels soften the light with a warm, ambient glow—evoking the quiet intimacy of paper lanterns. The lamp rests lightly on a recessed metal base frame , giving it the appearance of levitating just above the surface, an intentional nod to the aesthetic of ma, or negative space.
Suitable as a sculptural piece or functional ambient light, the Kōri Lamp is a poetic balance of shadow and illumination, tradition and innovation.
